Art Consulting
Aloha, my name is Akima Kai. I am the owner of Waimea Blue and Waikiki Ocean Gallery.
Just moved into a new home and not sure where to start?
Staring at empty walls for years, waiting for the “right” piece?
Let me introduce our Art Consulting service.
We listen, we guide, and we curate art that not only fits your house —
but blends into your lifestyle and brings a good, calm energy into your home.
My Story
Why I Started Art Consulting
I am the owner of two galleries and an artist myself.
Art has always been at the center of my life — not only as a creator, but as someone who deeply cares about artists and the community around them.
One of the main reasons I opened Waimea Blue was to support local artists. Being a full-time artist is not easy. In reality, only a small number of artists are able to live entirely from their art. Most artists must take on second jobs just to support their dream. I know this personally, and I wanted to create a space where local artists could truly be seen, valued, and supported.
In Hawaiʻi, many galleries feature artists from all over the world. While international art has its place, many people who live here want to support artists who actually live and create in Hawaiʻi. Visitors, too, often want to take home something meaningful — a memory of Hawaiʻi that is handmade here, inspired by the ocean, the land, and island life.
Sadly, it is still very difficult to find truly Made in Hawaiʻi in Hawaiʻi.
That reality is what led me to open Waimea Blue in 2019.
Now, I feel ready to grow beyond the gallery walls and expand my passion in a new way — through art consulting.
Art consulting allows me to share what Hawaiʻi truly offers:
the love of the ocean, the beauty of the islands, and the voices of local artists.
Through this service, I visit your home and take time to understand your lifestyle, your space, and the energy of how you live. We talk about what you love, what you’re drawn to, and how you want your home to feel. I show you available artworks, listen to your expectations, and help you choose pieces that truly belong in your home.
If you can’t find exactly what you’re looking for, we can also create custom artwork with your favorite artists. Yes — it is possible to commission a piece made just for you.
My goal is simple:
to help transform your house into a home — a place where you can rest, relax, and sleep well after a long day outside. A space that feels supportive, calming, and truly yours.
This is not just about art on the wall.
It’s about creating a home that feels right for your life.
